Brexit FARCE: Lib Dem deputy leader accidentally BACKS Corbyn's plan - ‘a genuine mistake’
Brexit news: Lib Dem deputy leader Jo Swinson accidentally voted for Labour's Brexit plan (Image: GETTY IMAGES)A division list published after a series of Commons votes shows the Lib Dem backed a Labour amendment in apparent defiance of her party’s policy. A party source told the Press Association Ms Swinson had made a “genuine mistake” when she walked through the wrong lobby to vote. She was the only Lib Dem MP to support Labour’s Brexit vision which called for a permanent customs union with the EU and alignment with the single market. Mr Corbyn’s proposals were defeated by 323 to 240 votes - a majority of 83.The result could now see Labour move towards a second referendum in the final step of its convoluted Brexit policy.
