How To Not Get Ripped Off When Buying a Sofa

How To Not Get Ripped Off When Buying a Sofa Are You Getting Ripped Off When You Go To Buy A Sofa?

In some cases, yes. Millions of you are being sold sofas, for exorbitant prices by major lifestyle brands, that are very poorly made, as you will see in this recent video I took in an upholstery workroom showing a sofa that came in for re-upholstering (due to water damage) and when the fabric was taken off, it was shown to be made of cheap plywood that was splitting, staples and CARDBOARD.

I will not mention any brand names. All I care about is that YOU learn how to ask the right questions about construction quality and methods.

I've been in the furniture and design industry for 37 years. I do not sell a line of furniture for you to buy, but I am keenly interested in helping you learn how to tell the difference between junk and excellent quality.

Why?

Cheaply made furniture is ending up in our landfills. There are MILLIONS of tons of furniture waste in our landfills. Cheaply made furniture (no matter how expensive it is for you to buy it), can leak toxins into our water supplies as it decomposes.

When you buy a sofa or any upholstery, BUY THE QUALITY OF THE FRAME, first.

Please know: I know you love to change your look from time to time. But if you buy a quality frame, a quality upholstery company can completely redo that frame, fabric and cushioning so that you get a completely different look.

It's not that this will be less expensive than buying new, is that it will save those cheap frames from going into our landfills.

So, don't get rippped off!

Buy a frame that is:

1. Made of solid wood like poplar or maple. NOT PLYWOOD.
2. Corner blocked and glued with non-toxic glues. NOT STAPLED.
3. Doesn't contain CARDBOARD.

AND BE AWARE: Don't be taken in by the marketing pitch or the branding. Ask for specifics and research it for yourselves, first. If that feels daunting, hire an interior designer to help you - even with just this one thing.

Experienced interior designers are trained to know the materials and methods used in sofa construction. They will help you make SUPERIOR choices so you save money, in the long run, and help save our water supplies, too.
