NTV PANORAMA: No hope in sight for victims of nodding disease As Northern Uganda attempts to heal from the scars of a brutal LRA conflict that brought its economy to its knees, a deadly plague is haunting the area.Children affected by nodding disease experience a complete and permanent stunting of growth. The growth of the brain is also stunted, leading to mental handicap. The disease is named for the characteristic, pathological nodding seizure, which often begins when children begin to eat, or sometimes when they feel cold.
It is currently not known what causes the disease, but it is believed to be connected to infestations of the parasitic worm, which is prevalent in all outbreak areas.
