Whilst vs. While - Commonly Confused Words Whilst and while are conjunctions that both mean “at the same time as.”

WHILST
Whilst is used in British English.

WHILE
While is used more widely than whilst and is the safer variation to use if you are unsure.

A WHILE
While also can be used in “a while” to describe a period of time. For example, I read for a while before starting my English paper.
