Man Utd FA Youth Cup winner aiming to save career at unlikely club

Man Utd FA Youth Cup winner aiming to save career at unlikely club Ravel Morrison was tipped to become a world star by all who knew him at Manchester United, including Sir Alex Ferguson.  After the success of the Class of '92, some believed a talented crop of youngsters all ascending through United’s ranks at the same time would never happen again. Then Manchester United’s U18s stepped forward and won the 2011 FA Youth Cup.  That winning side seemingly had players bursting with potential in all positions and in that team a fresh-faced Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard learned their trade.  However, one player arguably overshadowed current United stars Pogba and Lingard. Ravel Morrison, the most gifted academy attacker United had since Paul Scholes, was the crux of the 2011 Youth Cup winning team possessing incredible pace, flair and technical ability.  Unfortunately, Morrison's off-field issues would mean the true potential of his raw talent would never come to fruition at United and eventually the club reluctantly let him go.  Since then Morrison has had spells at QPR, West Ham, Cardiff, Lazio, Club Atlas and now he’s on the move again. Temperatures in the city can often reach minus 20 degrees and winter sports are the main attractions as opposed to football.  Therefore, it’s not where you would expect to find a man once deemed better than World Cup winner Paul Pogba.  However, in Morrison's latest career twist, the Englishman has joined Swedish side.  The club has become famous for signing players that have been cast aside in their careers and it welcomes players who have struggled to reach their potential or those who have made mistakes.    The policy can’t be knocked either, as recently Ostersunds visited Arsenal in the Europa League and left the Emirates with a shock 2-1 victory.  Speaking to the Washington Post, Morrison revealed the inspiration behind his latest move and admitted he is: “Just a young, humble person from Manchester”.  “I’ve come here to rebuild myself. I want to enjoy it and enjoy football again,” Morrison said.  And Ostersunds’ manager, Ian Burchnall, is English himself and there is no doubt he’ll aim to help Morrison transition from busy city life, to a snowy suburbia. Burchnall said: “I think it’s so easy for people to say he hasn’t fulfilled his potential. But he is still young really, he still has years ahead of him.”
