More than 1,000 scouts and girl guides from Vihiga County have launched a program to plant more than one million tree seedlings in the county in next one year.
Vihiga county scout chairman Mr Fredrick Muindi said that the initiative is one of the projects that are aimed at involving young people in implementing a government policy of 10% forest cover.
Ms Pamela Longas a quality assurance officer in Vihiga County hailed the move as she promised that the government will support students in the move to reclaim forest cover in the county.
County scouts commissioner Nicholas Otenyo challenged the county government to support young people participating in environmental matters to ensure a greener environment.
The targeted scouts and girl guides promised to embrace the initiative of tree planting in the region.
