PROVISION MARKET VENDORS TO BE RELOCATED BY MONDAY

PROVISION MARKET VENDORS TO BE RELOCATED BY MONDAY Effective Monday next week, the provision vendors at the Castries Market will be relocated to the old Fire Service Headquarters site on Jeremie Street. The necessary preparations, including the installation of security lockers and washroom facilities are now complete. On Wednesday May 14th, 21019, the office of the Mayor conducted a site visit with vendors. On Tuesday May 21st, 2019, vendors received a relocation stipend of $500.00 each.
Each of the vendors received a relocation stipend of $500.00 to assist with the temporary relocation. Vendors have also been guaranteed 24 hour security, proper lighting and other amenities at the temporary site. But one vendor says she will not relocate unless the temporary site provides overhead shelter.
Castries Mayor Petersen Francis says some vendors still do not understand why they are being compensated or that the move will only be a temporary one.
The aim, the Mayor says, is to ensure vendors are able to continue plying their trade while the renovation work is being done on the Castries Market.
Over 70 Vendors were issued stipends. The Castries Market Redevelopment project will be officially launched next week. It includes the erection of a state of the art food court, high end air-conditioned restaurants, a craft market, box park, viewing tower, entertainment area, meat and fish depots, duty free shopping boutiques and more.
