UK GOVERNMENT MUST CONDEMN WOMEN BEING REDUCED TO CHATTELS IN SAUDI ARABIA

UK GOVERNMENT MUST CONDEMN WOMEN BEING REDUCED TO CHATTELS IN SAUDI ARABIA I called on the UK Government to condemn Saudi Arabia’s medieval guardianship system, which sees women as the property of their closest male relative, unable to travel, play sports or do many of the things that we in the UK take for granted without permission from their male owners.

Given the constant threat to women in Saudi Arabia who fight for the most basic human rights, the Government should unequivocally condemn Saudi Arabia. I was disappointed that in her response the Secretary of State did not go as far as to explicitly condemn Saudi Arabia for this medieval practice.
