Prayuth Chan-ocha assumes position as head of civilian govt. in Thailand

Prayuth Chan-ocha assumes position as head of civilian govt. in Thailand Thailand's Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has formally resigned as head of a military government, to assume his position as leader of a civilian government. The former army chief led a coup to overthrow the government in 2014 after months of civil unrest. The country held its first general election since the takeover earlier this year, with parliament favoring Prayuth to lead the new civilian government last month. He said Thailand would now function as a normal democracy, without the application of special powers. The Thai King has already approved Prayuth's new cabinet, and it's due to be sworn in today.
