Ceremony for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Every year, on August 15, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This morning Assumption College English Program conducted a special ceremony to commemorate this very special event in history.

In the morning, from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. the teachers, parents and students made merit by giving alms to the monks from Phanthai Norasing Temple.

Then at 9:00 a.m. a holy mass was held in the Multipurpose Room in the Trinity Building to celebrate the Assumption of Mary to Heaven. The Mass was led by Father Thananchai Kitsamak from Saint Anna’s Catholic Church and was attended by ACEP Brothers, Catholic students, parents, teachers and administrators, as well as student representatives from each class.

After the mass, the members of the ACEP community joined a procession from ACEP’s statue of the Virgin Mary, which is located in the centre of the roundabout on the school’s entrance road, to the courtyard of the Ave Maria Building, with students carrying a small statue of the Virgin Mary. The procession route was lined by ACEP students. The ceremony, led by Father Thananchai Kitsamak, then continued in the courtyard of the Ave Maria Building.

During the ceremony, a video was played about the meaning of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Chayut Intarasupa from class 9/1 then read the history of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in English.

Following the prayers, Father Thananchai Kitsamak, Bro. Surasit Sukchai, Director, Bro. Dr. Siriroj Viriyasirimongko and Bro. Supharoek Singhaphan, Vice Directors, representatives of the School Board, Board of Directors, teachers, parents, students and workers, presented flower arrangements to the Virgin Mary’s statue. After the ceremony, all students and teachers also presented roses to the statue as a symbol of respect.

At the end of the ceremony, Bro. Surasit Sukchai also spoke to students about the importance of the Mother of God (Mary) to Catholics around the world and her role in our school’s history.
