Fiesta Filipino Opening 2019- Binhi ng Lahi Philippine Folk Dance Troupe

Fiesta Filipino Opening 2019- Binhi ng Lahi Philippine Folk Dance Troupe Opening Performance for Fiesta Filipino 2019 ( Karatong and Pastores Talisay)

BINHI strives to preserve and promote the folk dances and music of the Philippine culture by teaching the traditional dances to Filipinos and the wider Calgary community and performing the dances to local and (potentially) nationwide audiences. BINHI provides an opportunity for Calgary’s youth, as well as adults, to participate in learning about the Filipino culture through these traditional dances and music and celebrate Canada’s multiculturalism and diversity through its public performances.
"Binhi" is a Filipino term that translates to the English word SEED which defines our aim to express our rich Filipino folk customs and traditions through song and dance. We want to showcase our Filipino ancestor's way of life through these different dances that will illustrate our forefathers' ancient beliefs, traditions and everyday living.
We are a mixed group of Filipino – Canadians ranging in age from 10 to 40 years old, consisting of youths and young professionals. Our objective is the teaching of our customs and tradition through song and dance to our Filipino - Canadian youths, both born and raised or recently immigrated to Canada. This will create a strong sense of belonging within these youths to our unique Filipino culture.
Our Dance Directors, Allan and Noel have shown strong leadership in staging Filipino folk dances in Calgary since 2011. Both have been trained under the Philippines RAMON OBUSAN FOLKLORIC GROUP (ROFG) through the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The late Ramon A. Obusan, who achieved the prestigious title National Artist for Dance, was the founder of ROFG.
Binhi ng Lahi has recently been incorporated as a non-profit organization under the business name BINHI NG LAHI PHILIPPINE FOLK DANCE TROUPE LTD.
