Speaking on the Special Appropriation Bill for Eskom on Tuesday, ACDP MP, Steve Swart, described the Eskom debacle as "disgraceful." The bill would see Eskom receive an astonishing amount of R59billion of which R26billion would be paid to Eskom this financial year, and R 33billion in the next. This is in addition to the cash injection and loan conversion in 2015, as well as the R23bn per year over the medium term, announced by the Finance Minister Tito Mboweni earlier this year.
Swart went on to propose that a special ad hoc committee be established "for closer and stricter oversight of the utility, which would also ensure that the conditions of the bailout were complied with."
