Vancouver Police are responding to an active shooting in a downtown retirement community. They say at least three people have been shot. The Columbian reports that the incident is at Smith Tower at 515 Washington St. and that at least one person appears to be dead. Several other people appear to be injured, the newspaper’s website says. The shooter is on the 13th floor, barricaded in an apartment, police say, and some residents of Smith Tower have been evacuated as police negotiate with the gunman. Other residents are sheltering in place. Some could be seen on their balconies.
