Good News : Philippine Navy’s 2nd missile-capable frigate launched in Korea

Good News  : Philippine Navy’s 2nd missile-capable frigate launched in Korea The second multi-dimensional frigate of the Philippine Navy (PN) was launched to sea for the first time in a ceremony at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Shipyard, Bangeojinsunhwan-doro, Ulsan, South Korea earlier today.

Named after one of our national Heroes, BRP Antonio Luna, completes the two-unit Frigate Acquisition Project of the PN.

The first ship, BRP Jose Rizal, was launched last May and currently undergoing harbor trials and could be completed by the first quarter of 2020.

The delivery of BRP Jose Rizal is at the earliest of April or May 2020 while BRP Antonio Luna is in September or October 2020.

Philippine delegates witnessing the event was headed by the Secretary of National Defense, Delfin Lorenzana together with Chief of Staff Armed Forces of the Philippines, Gen. Noel Clement and Navy Flag Officer In Command (FOIC), Vice Adm. Robert Empedrad.

Both ships are capable of engaging in the four dimensions of modern warfare, namely: Anti-Air Warfare (AAW), Anti-Surface Warfare (ASUW), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Electronic Warfare (EW), and are fully equipped with Surface to Surface Missiles (SSM), Surface to Air Missile (SAM), and Torpedoes.
