I get countless messages asking how I can take photos *and* video and still enjoy travelling. Honestly, it's so surprising how frequently it's asked, so I decided to make a video addressing my thoughts and the physical process I use. The principle is mostly the same whether covering street photography or landscape photography; the difference is mostly just in the speed at which I need to work.
A lot of people mistakenly think the stills I show in my videos are individual frames from the footage, but in actual fact, I use two cameras when travelling. My Fujifilm X-H1 or X100F for photography and my Panasonic Lumix GH5 for filmmaking. Beyond the physical process of switching between two cameras, there's also the mental exercise of knowing when to take photos, when to take video and of course how to know if you've got enough footage. I explore through all these thoughts within this relaxed vlog around Naka-Meguro in Tokyo, Japan.
The majority of this video was actually filmed with the iPhone 11 Pro Max as part of my ongoing testing for its filmmaker capabilities. Let me know what you think in the comments!
