The Philippine newest, largest coast guard ship sailing home in few weeks

The Philippine newest, largest coast guard ship sailing home in few weeks “The newest and largest offshore patrol vessel of the Philippine Coast Guard, BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV 8301) will set sail to the Philippines in a few weeks from now,” the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said November 18. BRP Gabriela Silang is expected to be delivered before 2019 ends.

It noted that OPV 8301 is the largest ever vessel built by OCEA in Les-Sables d’Olonne, France.

“The vessel will be deployed to boost its patrol in the country’s archipelagic waters and exclusive economic zone,” PCG said.

Before October ended, OCEA said “the on-going campaign of measurements at sea revealed that fuel savings are higher than expected. They reached 42 % compared to an equivalent vessel in steel for the same operational profile, which provides a reduction of operational costs, in line with cost reduction policy of most governments.”

OCEA also said that “in the early morning of the 11th of October 2019, the 84m OPV designed by OCEA for the Philippines Coast Guard weighed anchor for her first sea trials.”
