In the face of intense global competition, technological advancement and innovative business practices, universities in this region have been following highlyorthodox, exceedingly traditional and very conventional human resource management practices. Social media, legal and judicial activism, new legislations, accountability, unionism,and the mushroom growth of the universities are some of the major driving forces, harnessing new HR trends and posing new challenges in the universities. Hence, the HR managers, policymakers, management practitioners and academics need to take cognizance of theseenvironmental forces, while formulating HRpolicies and strategies.In this short video, I discuss some of the key factors creating new trends and HR challenges in the higher education institutionsin Pakistan.
