The most traditional shape of eeya chombu is the conical one which is called "venna thaazhi". The other one is "mambazham" which is pot shaped. The ancient shapes are said to have a purpose. Since rasam is supposed to be of watery consistency, the small mouths and broader middle / base took care of limited evaporation of the liquid.
The Tall shape is "adukku" and the broad one is "kinnam". These are shapes adapted to modern needs of consumers.
