Research that has found promising uses of self-talk and suggestion, ranging from the facilitation of the medicinal effects to the reduction of implicit bias, will be discussed. An explanation as to why many people’s attempts to engage in self-talk are often unsuccessful and sometimes detrimental will be presented.
