However, any tool, no matter how simple can cause an accident. Every tool and machine you use will have guards in place to protect you and these guards come in many forms. This course will cover the following learning objectives:
MACHINE HAZARDS
Machines can maim, injure, and even kill when they are not used properly. Machines operate though a combination of actions and moving parts. Machine guards protect the user from: the Point of Operation, the Power Transmission, and the Moving Parts.
GUARD TYPES
Machine Guards serve as the barrier between you and the tool you are operating and come in many forms, including physical barriers, devices, automated feeding mechanisms, machine location and miscellaneous aids.
ACCIDENT PREVENTION
The majority of accidents that occur arise from a combination of factors. Your first line of defense is to be aware and to pay attention, not only to the tool or machine you are using, but also to your environment and coworkers. Personal Protective Equipment must also be worn at all times.
