The rule of thirds is a "rule of thumb" which may be used to create a composition both in photography and videography.

The guideline proposes that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally spaced horizontal lines and two equally spaced vertical lines, and that important objects should be placed along these lines or their intersections.

Its gives a better effect than having the object in the middle of the frame.
