When discussing all of the things that artificial intelligence could do in the future, I had someone tell me they didn't think any of it was going to happen because in the end big oil or big medicine or big whoever would quash the change before it can really fundamentally change the world.
Will big oil or big energy quash these innovations? No. I don’t believe “big anything” has any power to stop the march of progress. Big whale oil didn’t halt kerosene. Big candle didn’t stop the light bulb. There is a reason that of all the original Dow companies, only one is still part of the index. And that is General Electric, and even they got dropped a couple of times. The blue-chip darlings of yesteryear aren’t just out of business, but their industries have vanished with them. Innovation always upsets the apple cart, and new companies pop up by the minute to take on the big, established corporations.
