What we know about Norman:
Norman came into the shelter as a stray with no behavior history. He is a compact boy with a lot of energy. He is friendly when people approach him, but can easily becomes over aroused. His arousal can lead to jumping up, humping and mouthy behavior. If given the time to settle he will relax and lay down. When in this state he shows a more submissive side of himself. He seems to get very stimulated with even the smallest amount of touching. He seems to want to settle and get attention, but he does not seem to know how. He has been resistant to restraint with our veterinary staff, but was better on his last visit and allowed his ears to be cleaned and treated. Out of kennel he is reactive to other dogs on leash and off leash. We had one person that tried to foster him with a giant breed dog and the introduction went poorly and he was returned to the shelter. After this experience he was tried in playgroups and he exhibited unsocial behavior with other dogs of multiple personality types. He needs to be the only pet in the household. He seems to be the kind of dog that would improve with training and if selectively placed could become a good companion for someone. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to provide him this opportunity. We are hoping there is a rescue organization out there that will take a chance on him.

What we need for Norman:
The multiple incidences of animal aggression and his high arousal behavior are what makes Norman unable to be placed up for public adoption again. Please read through his attached profile and learn about his behavior and what led us to have to put him at risk. His profile provides information on each incident, that will help you understand his needs. We have begun our euthanasia protocol, which includes calling all former owners and finders, alerting our staff and reaching out to the rescue community. We are setting a deadline of Sunday, October 27th (end of day) as the deadline for rescue commitments. His case file will be uploaded to OC Rescue Track. We are of course available to discuss him with you further or to schedule a time for you to come safely meet him. Please contact us if you have any questions or would like to set up an appointment to meet Norman

Message From Shelter Staff:
Rescue partners! We need your help more than ever. We are at our maximum capacity with dogs and cannot continue to hold our special needs dogs that have shown behaviors that prevent them from being publically adoptable. We have been promoting many of them on our OC Rescue Track web page in hopes that people would ask about them. We have not had the response we were hoping for. They are all in need of rescue now. We know everyone else is packed with dogs needing help, but these dogs really need your assistance. Due to our current situation, we will be posting all of the behavior dogs with deadines. If you are interested in helping, please contact us. Some of these dogs just need more resources than we can provide them in the shelter environment.
